Growing Companies, Since 1998
In 1998, John Starling and Rob Macdonald formed “Macdonald-Starling Strategic Planning and Development, LLC” to bring top-shelf consulting to middle-market and emerging companies.
Three years later, Macdonald and Starling launched “Smith Content” to meet the market need for a pure business-to-business content development (copywriting) company and history was made. A company of wordsmiths (as opposed to an ad agency or freelance writers), “Smith” was the first content development company in the United States (focusing exclusively on content development) and operated until 2007.
That year, Starling assumed total ownership of the company and refocused the business on growth strategy, implementation and management. He renamed the organization Smith Growth Partners. The name change reflected what it is that Smith has always offered its clients: a work ethic like a blacksmith, a keen focus on the Growth of the companies it serves, and a spirit of Partnership with its clients and Strategic Partners unlike anything else they’ve experienced.
